I’ve lived in hills, mountains, deserts, college towns, oil towns, steel towns, and government towns. And only once have I ever lived somewhere that I couldn’t get to a river if I wanted one. If you're the kind of person who needs a river in your life, we have that in common. I also love reading, tea, hummus, writing, knitting, treasures you can fit in your hand, and this blog, which feels like home even when I don't write in it for weeks at a time.

I grew up near Pittsburgh and now live in Winnipeg, MB with my husband, a chess historian with a day job. Our house is a hundred years old and needs approximately 1127 things fixed at this writing. Don’t worry; this is not a home repair/design/diy blog and I will try to keep house chatter to a minimum. Or, you know, a moderate.

This site moved to Squarespace 6 in summer 2013 and Squarespace 7 in fall 2014. My About page used to be much longer, but it bored even me. Anything you want to know? Just ask.
