winter is worth a word-laden Wednesday

I used to live in a place where, when it snowed, it was such an event that everyone took photographs of their snowy houses to be used as photo Christmas cards for holidays yet to come. I remember the year that Melanie lived in Savannah, the long drives there and back, the way I-16 loves it when you drive along it and sing in your empty car, my first sight of cotton fields. One of the only things I can appreciate about snow (besides the fact that I seem to have learned about custom white balances at long last) is when there is just a little bit of it and it collects on the tips of the dormant bushes and reminds me, however obliquely, of Georgia and cotton plants once again.
Spinach salad with tomatoes, red onion, blue cheese, pomegranate arils, and walnuts, to come.

This post is tinged with melancholy. I know the sight of snow does nothing to excite you now so I'm proud that you found an effortless way to make this post beautiful. Plus, those pomegranates look divine. *whispers* plane tickets to London are still up for grabs.
The pomegranates, Kim. The pomegranates... Such a burst of color and joy amidst the whiteness.
i'e not gotten re-used to the snow yet so it still is wonderful for me. i imagine after some years i will be a little less excited about it.
i just bought a pomegranate too. kindred souls.
I'm in love with snow dusting, not so much the long lasting saturation of it. But honestly I'd take anything I could get at this point.
And the pomegranate! Just gorgeous. I've been finding new ways to use mine since I'm pretty sure it is the sunniest part of my food.
Cold!
Snow does my heart good. I smile and find that scene so serene and wondrous. I can't wait for the snow to arrive (and stay) here. :)
